Twinning history

The Turners Hill Twinning Association had its inception in 1992. The Mackelden family of Turners Hill, were returning from a holiday in France and chanced across the village of St Leger en Yvelines on their way home. They stayed overnight and so enjoyed the hospitality of the St Leger resident’s, that a ‘twinning’ arrangement was proposed between to the two villages. With St Leger being of similar size, type and position in relation to the country capital it seems to be an ideal proposal.

Janice Mackelden, who was the District and Parish Councillor for Turners Hill at the time, said she would see if there was any interest from the Turners Hill resident’s.

So in 1993, a small yet enthusiastic delegation of eleven people set out to make a ‘twinning’ visit to St Leger. They liked what they saw and were certainly made to feel very welcome. So it was this successful inaugural visit which sowed the seeds. The Turners Hill Twinning Association was officially inaugurated with Denis Mundey elected as its first Chairperson. A committee of eight people were elected and drew up and adopted its constitution.
